School Tree Planting Project

The Monroe-Union Breakfast Rotary partnered with Union County Public Schools and Union County's Arborist and with funding from OMNOVA ( a Synthomer Corporation's subsidiary), and Pilgrim’s Pride (Pilgrim’s) developed a tree planting and educational program in 2018. The program teaches 4th graders, the importance of trees in their community and the world. Students learn how to plant and care for trees properly. Hands-on practice follows as the students help plant a few large trees on their school campus. Finally, each child takes a seedling to plant at home.

In 2021, despite Covid, 628 students participated in planting 14 large trees on seven school campuses and 180 seedlings. The program helps to restore Union County's declining tree canopy.
