Western Union Elementary Sun Powered Classroom
When Monroe-Union Breakfast Rotary member and Union Power Manager of Marketing and Energy Services Jake Thomas learned Western Union Elementary was raising funds to 'go solar,' he enlisted the club for help. The school needed to raise matching funds for an Educational Solar Package from NC GreenPower. With help from other club members and a grant from Rotary District #7680, the club donated $1,700.
According to NC GreenPower, "NC GreenPower Solar+ Schools provides grant funding for installing a 5 kilowatt educational solar photovoltaic (PV) array. Each school will receive approximately $14,000 related benefits, including donated SunPower solar modules, a STEM curriculum, and teacher training."
